European Mandolin and Guitar orchestra

Description of the project

  • Creation of a European mandolin and guitar orchestra bringing together 40 musicians from all over Europe.
  • Composition of the orchestra: mandolins, mandolas, mandoloncellos, guitars and double basses, and punctually some other instruments, such as percussion instruments.
  • Our aim is to bring together professional musicians and the best students from European music conservatories to work on an original and demanding repertoire.
  • Open to young musicians to offer them a unique experience and to support the musical training of future professional artists.


3 work phases in 2022:

  • From 1st to 3rd April 2022
  • From 3rd to 5th June 2022
  • From 28th to 30th October 2022
  • Accommodation: youth hostel in Esch-sur-Alzette.

  • Intense rehearsals in orchestra and by instrumental section.
  • Each instrumental section will be under the responsibility of a professional musician:

  • Mandolin 2:       Raffaele La Ragione
  • Mandolas:         Fabio Galluci
  • Guitars:              Ender Rangel Vielma
  • Diversified musical repertoire: baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, ...
  • At the end of each work phase a concert of the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra will be organized.


  • Long-term sustainable project: the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra is created in the context of the European Capital of Culture 2022 and will continue to live well beyond 2022.
  • Sharing of the European spirit and values: The musicians will be able to discover other cultures and forge close ties of friendship across the European continent. In this way the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra will also contribute to a better understanding of Europe's multicultural diversity.


  • Advanced musical level and orchestral experience.
  • Open to professionals, students and students of higher conservatories, municipal conservatories, and music schools in the European Community.
  • Open to all EU citizens and students studying within the European Union.
  • Fair representation of each EU Member State (dependent on the registrations).
  • Age limit: minimum 18 years.
  • Interest in meeting other European musicians and cultures.
  • Registration fee: 100,00 €. The registration fee will be paid back to the participants after their participation at the 3 work phases.
  • The musicians who register for the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra commit themselves to participate at the 3 work phases, as well as at all the concerts planned at the end of each work phase in 2022.
  • Accommodation and full board will be provided by the organizer.

  • Travel costs to Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) are not included and are on your own account.
  • A concert will be organized during each work phase.

Applications will be accepted depending on the total number of instruments allowed. We reserve the right to refuse certain applications.

You will receive an email confirming your application as soon as possible so that you can book your journey as soon as possible.


The scores will be sent to you in advance so that you can work on them beforehand. You are expected to have practiced your part before coming to the 1st work phase.


The participants commit themselves to respect the sanitary protocols set up by the organizers.
